FAQ: SelfDesign Global Teen Program

Q. Who is eligible to enroll in a SelfDesign Global Teen Program?
Enrollment is open to any home learning high school students, from any location worldwide as long as they have access to (high-speed) internet connectivity.
Q. What about a face-to-face gathering?
We recognize the value in face-to-face gatherings and we have successfully co-created many of these in the past. We will consider planning a face-to-face gathering, most likely in southern British Columbia, given sufficient interest and learner accessibility. Details will follow as the program evolves. Travel and boarding expenses are not included in the SelfDesign Global registration fees.
Q. What is the SelfDesign Global "Learner Accountability Agreement"?

This is a document to be signed by the learner and a parent that specifies and clarifies the learner's responsibilities as a participant in either the Essential or Integral SelfDesign program, including completion of a Learning Plan, regular communication with the Learning Consultant, and details specific to the track the learner will take ("Graduation" or non-graduation ["Self-Explore"]). Here are the main points:

  • Learners agree to work with a trained SelfDesign Global Learning Consultant through the duration of their enrollment
  • Learners agree to complete a draft of their Personal Learning Plan within 30 days of enrolling in the SelfDesign Global program, and provide this to their Learning Consultant
  • Learners agree to establish a mutually-agreed-upon schedule for regular, consistent communication (suggested: weekly or bi-weekly) with their Learning Consultant upon entry into the program
  • Learners agree to communicate with their Learning Consultant important changes in their personal schedule arising from new or special circumstances (moving, illness, technical problems) within one or two weeks of the circumstances arising
  • Learners agree to respond to questions arising in communication with their Learning Consultant
  • Learners agree to contribute ideas and responses to the SelfDesign Global Online Learning Community
  • Learners agree to communicate with their Learning Consultant any significant changes to their Learning Plan
  • Learners agree to be respectful in all communication with SelfDesign Global consultants, mentors and other program enrollees
  • In the event of a conflict, learners agree to contact SelfDegign Global Teen program personnel and to support mutually-satisfactory resolution to issues
Q. What are the differences between the "Graduation" and Non-Graduation ("Self-Explore") tracks of the SelfDesign Global Teen Program?

A goal for learners enrolled in the Graduation track program will be to work toward a graduation certificate issued by SelfDesign Global. * Learners in the Graduation track will be expected to complete courseware or demonstrate course equivalency, and to complete the "Learning Your Way" course being offered in the SelfDesign Global Teen Program (tuition covered by registration fees). Learners in the Non-Grad track will not be expected to complete courseware nor are they required to complete the "Learning Your Way" course, for which their participation will be optional (tuition covered by registration fees).

* SelfDesign is a candidate for accreditation by The Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation (CITA). The SelfDesign Global Teen Program will be reviewed as part of the CITA inspection process. See our Accreditation page for details.
